DR. ASA HILLIARD III

Dr. Asa G. Hilliard III (b. 1933 – d. 2007)

Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Urban Education at Georgia State University

RETURN TO THE SOURCE, AFRICAN ORIGINS

(Taking us back to the not too distant past, to show us how we arrived at the Present)

Dr. Hilliard was an African-American professor of educational psychology who worked on indigenous ancient African history (ancient Egyptian), culture, education and society. He was the Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Urban Education at Georgia State University, with joint appointments in the Department of Education Policy Studies and the Department of Educational Psychology and Special Education. Prior to his position at Georgia State, Hilliard served as the Dean of the School of Education at San Francisco State University in San Francisco, California.

Hilliard was also a founding member of the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations and served as vice president. He served as an expert witness in court testimony on several federal cases regarding test validity and bias, and was the co-developer of an educational television series, Free Your Mind, Return to the Source: African Origins. This is three parts of this educational series, which was originally broadcast on Listervelt Middleton’s ‘For The People’ program. It was originally broadcast in 1986 on South Carolina’s public television channel, SCETV.
